The History
Early in 2011, Mr Harper the Putaruru College music teacher suggested that John, James, Tarewa, Antinio and Connor form a band in order to compete in the 2011 Rock Quest.
Rock Quest is an annual event which allows young and new bands to ‘battle it out’ in front of a live audience.
This was held in Hamilton City, New Zealand on July the 16th.
The band had started practicing covers and soon decided upon an original composition which was to be their competition entry.
They called the song ‘Head in the clouds’.

After the initial rehearsals, the fifth member Connor, rejoined the band, returning from a family holiday overseas. They were ready to rock.
Their music reverberated around the school as they practised and practised.
The assembled school finally sampled the finished product a few days before the Rock Quest and the band was absolutely sublime.

The Future
In an interview with Mr Harper, he mentioned that the eventual goal of ‘I AM HERO’ is to put together a collection of original tracks with the aim of creating an album.
When pressed for a release date, Mr Harper stressed that it could be a long way off yet.
